The Whitebelts
Jazz For Hipsters

The Whitebelts are a jazz band with the goal of updating the vocabulary and song selection of the modern day combo to include material that appeals to a younger audience. Standards and originals are mixed with covers of indie rock, hip hop and more to create an entirely unique sound. Think the Donald Byrd/Pepper Adams quintet playing songs by TV On The Radio, Broken Social Scene, The Arcade Fire, Rilo Kiley, The Magic Numbers, The Ventriloquists and The Yin Yang Twinz.

The band features the acclaimed Double D Horns - David Moyer on tenor and baritone saxophones and Danny T. Levin on trumpet and cornet (whose collective credits include work with indie rock stalwarts Rilo Kiley, Bright Eyes, Built To Spill, The Elected, TOCA, The Ventriloquists, and more). Look for Mike Bloom (Rilo Kiley, The Elected, Rachel Yamagata), who was instrumental in setting up the band's initial residency at the Hollywood club Social, to occasionally be lending his superior skills on the guitar as well. Other notable members of the Los Angeles jazz community have gotten in on the fun including keyboard aces John Kirby, Gary Fukashima, and Mahesh Ballesouriya; bassists including Danny McKay, Sam Menaie and Miles Mosley, and drummers Evan Stone and Kevin Kanner.
